St. John’s has been open for the worship of Our Lord since 1850, welcoming all through its red doors. Throughout the decades, we have always been a growing, vibrant community – intergenerational, multi-racial and connected to the larger world around us.
Join us for our Eucharisticaly-centered worship on Sundays at 8 am and 10:15 am (including virtual) as well as Tuesday evenings at 7 pm and Thursdays at 10 am.
Within our church life, we maintain an active music program for all ages (kids included!). We sponsor Church School and seasonal book and Scripture discussions, as well as other opportunities for growth and discipleship. We have groups for all interests: Episcopal Church Women, Lenten spiritual programs, Advent Lessons and Carols, and other faith-enriching programs.
We have an active servant ministry and a strong commitment to the care of those in need: Meals to Go, Laundry Love, Clothes Closet, sock and glove drives, and Adopt a Family for Christmas. We participate in the Somerset County Food Bank and Feeding Hands Food Bank. We donate to Agape House, the Chaplaincy for the Elderly, and prison ministry, among others.
We open our doors to regional organizations such as the Somerville Civic League, Friends of the Somerville Library, Somerset County Historical Society, and Raritan-Millstone Heritage Alliance. Because of our great location, diocesan meetings often gather here.
Fr. Ron is the chaplain to the Somerville Fire Department and Somerville Rescue Squad and a familiar face in the community. He was named Somerville Citizen of the Year in 2017 for his work in the community.
We value our heritage. Both the church and the rectory are listed on the National Historic Register.
