Help Requested from Congregations Regarding Boy Scouts Bankruptcy

Contributed by: Paul Ambos, Esq., Chancellor

Negotiations are ongoing with the various groups involved in the bankruptcy reorganization of the Boy Scouts of America.  Last November was a deadline for filing claims for organizations, including congregations in the Diocese, that may have sponsored or hosted a scout troop but were unaware of whether they might be the subject of claims by scouts that may have been abused by adult leaders.  I understand that many congregations filed such claims, but the Diocese does not have a record of which ones have done so.

As further facts develop, it would be useful for there to be a diocesan database of which congregations have filed with the bankruptcy proceedings.  Accordingly, if you have so filed, please email a copy of your filing to me as Chancellor so we can develop this record.

Thank you for your cooperation.
