It’s no secret that churches–places that should be sanctuaries from the evils that plague the rest of society–have not always been the safe spaces they should be. The Episcopal Church and The Diocese of New Jersey are committed to ensuring the safety of all our people while they’re in our churches or being part of our activities. That’s why the diocese requires all church leaders–lay and clergy alike–to take “Safe Church Training” once every five years. The training is intended to prevent sexual exploitation and harassment of both children and adults. This training is required every five years for clergy, wardens, employees, church personnel, lay Eucharistic visitors, and anyone regularly working with or around children or youth.
For specifics, please refer to Respecting the Dignity of Every Human Being, which you can download as a PDF in English: here or in Spanish: aquí.
Those who have previously attended the workshop may do their training online by contacting Diocesan House for an ID and Password. Sponsored by the Pastoral Response Staff of the Diocese of New Jersey. Registration Register by the Tuesday prior to the workshop.
Registration for the next in-person Safe Church Training at Diocesan House in Trenton is now available. Seats are limited, so be sure to register early.
