Haitian Earthquake At least 2,000 people were killed and 7,000 injured when a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on Saturday morning. That toll is expected to rise. The United Nations estimates that 1.2 million people, including 540,000 children, have been affected. Tropical Storm Grace, which hit the area Monday evening, is hampering relief efforts. Further aggravating the situation is the destruction of many churches in the country, which is a traditional source of relief in times of disaster.
