The Rev. Canon Dr. Francisco Pozo is retiring after 28 years of service in the Diocese of New Jersey. His last Sunday is June 26.
Fr. Pozo was born in Villa Altagracia, Dominican Republic, on December 17, 1956. He was ordained a priest in 1986, and came to the United States in 1991. Two years later, he started a new spiritual journey in the Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey, as he was received into the Episcopal Church.
Fr. Pozo has always believed in the need to prepare himself to the maximum and develop his greatest potential to serve those most in need. He received degrees in business administration, philosophy, and theology in the Dominican Republic, continuing his education in France and at Drew University, in the U.S., where he earned a doctorate in Ministry.
In the Diocese of New Jersey Fr. Pozo was the Acting Rector at Trinity Cranford in 1994, and has been Vicar at Cristo Rey, Trenton since 1995. Simultaneous with his pastoral work at Cristo Rey, Fr. Pozo was also Vicar in St. Andrew’s Camden in 1999, and later in Grace, Elizabeth in 2004.
Fr. Pozo has actively fought for justice through protests for labor and student demands, advocacy against racial profiling, and for the passage of the law to grant driver’s licenses to immigrants regardless of their immigration status.
Father Pozo is happily married to Angelin and is a proud father of two daughters and a son, Frangelin, Frangy, and Francisco Alberto.
