Summer Meals Program for Children

Contributed by: Deacon Trisha Thorme, ECS-NJ

"There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish. But what are they among so many people?"
John 6:9
NRSV

It has been said that the five small barley loaves and two fish that were the basis of the feeding of the five thousand were that boy’s lunch. As the school year comes to an end many children will lose access to school lunches, and child hunger will dramatically increase in New Jersey. Just as that one boy’s lunch fed thousands, your church can directly impact child hunger over the summer.

By working with the food bank that covers your county, your church may be able to enroll as a site for the Summer Food Service Program and provide meals for low-income children. To find out more and get started, please contact the appropriate person for your county as listed below.
