Project Backpack at All Saints’

Contributed by: The Very Rev. Debbie Cook

Each year, All Saints’ Memorial Church in Navesink collects funds to provide fully supplied backpacks for school children in need. Last year, All Saints’ partnered with HABcore for the first time, and provided more than 60 backpacks filled with school supplies and other personal items for children in their program. HABcore provides homeless families with housing, meals, and nurturing support and now has 300 residents living across Monmouth and Ocean counties, including 65 families with more than 110 children. Residents represent a formerly homeless population of very-low-income families. A new backpack with all the necessary supplies is a small investment in a child that allows them start the year with confidence and focus on their school work.

This year, we were able to provide 80 fully supplied backpacks for ages from elementary school through high school. This is a new high total for us, and truly the Spirit was with us, for we were able to send along some extra supplies and funds as well! Thanks to all our contributors and volunteers!
