Bishop Stokes: Practicing the Presence of God

The Right Rev. William H. (Chip) Stokes presents his keynote talk for our 2022 Discipleship Conference: Equipping the Saints for Ministry. Bishop Stokes focuses on “Practicing the Presence of God,” creating a discipline around becoming a disciple.

“The gifts he gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ.”  Ephesians 4:11-13

Discipleship Conference 2022

Equipping the Saints for Ministry

Following up on our “Equipping the Saints for Ministry” Discipleship Conference, we’ll be presenting recordings of the key presentations and workshops given that day. We start with Bishop Stokes’ keynote address.

Keynote Address
The Rt. Rev. William “Chip” Stokes, 12th Bishop of New Jersey

Bishop Stokes offers his reflection on the foundations of discipleship as practicing the presence of God. He highlights the Christian Life Model, a Benedictine framework articulated by Bob Gallagher of the Church Development Institute (CDI). This framework emphasizes Study, Worship, and Action as the three pillars of Christian discipleship, and provides a foundation for establishing our congregations as Schools of Discipleship, along with living into our baptismal covenant.
