How to Help Refugees in your Neighborhood

Contributed by: Dcn Sally Maurer & the Rev Ellen Rutherford for the Refugee Resettlement Task Force

Have you wondered how you can offer practical help to individuals and families, who are relocating to New Jersey from countries around the world? Consider a Toiletry Kit Drive…invite participants to collect the ingredients for toiletry kits, pack each kit in a zip-lock bag, and deliver your kits to Interfaith-RISE, our regional resettlement agency. Interfaith-RISE offices are located at 19 S. 2nd Ave, Highland Park, NJ 08904 (732-357-0590); and 2384 E. Landis Ave, Vineland, NJ 08361 (732-357-0590).

What’s in a typical Toiletry Kit?

    • 1 toothbrush
    • 1 toothpaste
    • 1 bar of soap
    • 1 hand towel
    • 1 washcloth
    • 1 deodorant
    • 1 travel-size shampoo
    • 1 travel-size conditioner
    • 1 travel-size lotion.

You can add other items, such as a hair brush or razor, as you tailor your toiletry kit for a man or a woman; and you can put together a child-friendly toiletry kit. Your toiletry kit will make the first night in New Jersey a little better for our new neighbors.
