Christmas Resources
Faith formation at Christmas can be overlooked–it’s a short season (12 days!) and usually falls over school breaks and Sabbath time for formation leaders who are taking a much-needed rest after Advent programming and Christmas worship services. Here are some simple formation ideas to use and share!
- Twelve Days of Christmas (printable) ($)Â >>
- An Illustrated Christmas Story Set (print, color, and play) ($) >>
- Twelve Days of Christmas poster (pdf) >>
- Pray Your Christmas Cards: As you receive Christmas cards, in the mail or digitally, or as you make connections with friends and family, pray for each one of them. Pray for peace, health, and that they may know God’s love.
- Carrying Christmas With Us: Prayer Cards for All Twelve Days (from Building Faith): These cards are free and printable in several formats, to use individually or to share with ministries or the whole congregation. They can be used at mealtime or on the go, as many people travel during this season.
- Make a Christmas Music Playlist: Spend some time listening to some Christ-centered Christmas music. Perhaps you have some favorites already, or maybe do some searching on a streaming service like Spotify or Pandora to find some new tunes. Some artists and albums to get you started: Josh Garrels; Carols with St. Paul’s; Rain for Roots; The Eagle and Child; Choir of King’s College, Cambridge; Future of Forestry; or The Many—whether modern or traditional, try something new this season!
- Expand Your Christmas Horizons:Â take some time during the twelve days to learn something new! Some ideas: read about the saints who are commemorated during the time between December 25 and January 6; look up Christmas celebrations and traditions from around the world (and maybe try some new recipes or a new ); or visit or watch a Christmas season service from a different church than your own.
- An Illustrated Christmas Story Set (from Illustrated Ministry) ($): This resource can be purchased for individual or congregational use. Folks can color and cut out the various figures to tell and share the Christmas story.
