The Diocese of New Jersey Committee on Resolutions invites submission of proposed resolutions for consideration at the March 9, 2024 Diocesan Convention. Resolutions should be received by January 15, 2024.
The Committee asks that proposals be submitted by email or, if mailed or faxed, on white 8-1/2 x 11 paper, typed and double-spaced, and contain at least two sections: the RESOLVED paragraph naming the desired action, and a FURTHER RESOLVED paragraph, as appropriate, providing for the implementation of the resolution if adopted. No “whereas” or other prefatory language can be used, so the proposals should begin with “Be it RESOLVED, That . . . .” Each resolution should be accompanied by a short explanatory statement by the proponent(s).
Resolutions may be proposed by any communicant of any congregation in the diocese, whether or not a Convention deputy, or by any member of the clergy canonically resident, serving, or residing in the diocese, whether or not eligible to vote at Convention.
In addition to other resolution topics, resolutions for submission by the Diocese to the 2024 General Convention may be considered at this Diocesan Convention.
Proposals should be forwarded to the Chair of the Committee, The Rev. Susanna P. Cates, All Saints’ Church, 559 Park Ave, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076-1777 (facsimile 908-322-8006) or by email, with a copy to the Committee’s Secretary, Canon Paul Ambos, 418 Magnolia Street, Highland Park, NJ 08904-2641 (facsimile 732-572-8796) or by email so as to be received before the deadline of January 15, 2023.
Resolution proposals received after the January 15 deadline may only be considered by the Convention on a two-thirds preliminary vote.
Formal hearings will be held on resolution proposals in the Small Conference Room at Diocesan House and simultaneously by Zoom meeting on February 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. You must register in advance to attend the Zoom meeting.
Additional informal discussions may take place at pre-convention meetings, subject to availability of members of the Committee on Resolutions. Visit https://dioceseofnj.org/240th-diocesan-convention/ for additional convention information.
