Way of St. Paul Season III—Come-and-See Experience

February 23 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Way of St. Paul Season III Singleness of Purpose in Your Congregation Way of St. Paul Season III—Come-and-See Experience Saturday, February 23—St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Pennington 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.—FREE (Includes Materials, Lunch, and Coaching Session) Strong Relationships + The Great Purpose of Discipleship “Congregations grow where people in them are growing spiritually.” If you think about this for even a few minutes, its truth will be obvious. People outside the church are attracted to growing people, and growing people are energized to go get them. The effect Jesus has on people has always been the gift we have to give—and has given us the courage and desire to share that gift. The Way of St. Paul initiative helps you push spiritual growth (we call it disciple-making) to the top of your congregation’s priority list and keep it there. (In some congregations, it’s already there, and their rapid growth shows it!) With that, your Way of St. Paul team will connect with two energy sources:
  • Strong and healthy relationship-building (good for all aspects of parish life) based in part on the work of Henry Cloud, author of the best-selling Boundaries and The Power of the Other
  • The Great Purpose of Discipleship, based in part on the work of Greg Finke, friend of the Diocese of New Jersey and author of Joining Jesus on his Mission
These two amplify each other and create a high-energy environment moving in one direction. That makes everything you do more effective—from worship, Sunday school and youth programs, to pastoral care and social justice. At the same time, your team will learn how to approach the challenge of growth (and yes, evangelism) creatively in your unique setting. The Way of St. Paul is not a “how-to” or cookie-cutter approach. (Those don’t work at all.) Rather, it provides a safe and encouraging structure where you can be creative in your own church and neighborhood, and learn from other churches in the Diocese of New Jersey. Remember, if you want to grow, it’s because you form some new Christian disciples. You do that by being a place where formation at all ages happens—starting with you. There is no other way to grow your church. Season III of The Way of St. Paul will help you do this. Way of St. Paul III teams also enjoy the support of one of our certified Diocesan Growth Coaches. This involves monthly in-person coaching sessions where your team reviews its progress, evaluates challenges, determines monthly action steps, and gathers resources, all in the environment of prayer. Flexible Commitment Options In Season III, we’re exploring the effectiveness of “month-to-month” participation, without a long-term commitment. In other words, do it for as long as it is valuable and enjoyable for your team. We continue to believe that the kind of culture change we envision takes time. But we also realize the value of just getting started, and letting one step lead to another. The New Free Option We have also developed a free version of The Way of St. Paul for Season III. Congregations that want a no-cost version can attend the opening session on February 23 in Pennington. They then can take part in Way of St. Paul III follow-up sessions in June, September, and December, where they can join in the learning, reporting, and celebration with all the teams. You can add the paid coaching option at any point. How to Register Be sure to register each member of the team by noon on February 18 for the February 23 event. Here’s the link to register. See you there!
