Sermon: Discovering Your God-Given Gifts for Service
October 16, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Identify your strengths & how & where to put them into action in the church.
Leader: Canon Constance L. White, Co-Director, Ministry Institute, Diocese of New Jersey
Have you ever wondered: “What are my talents for ministry? How can I put my God-given gifts to good use in my parish and in the world?” Then this sermon is for you! The sermon sets the stage for a workshop that can give you the tools to answer the questions. While no workshop is scheduled to follow this sermon, it may encourage you to invite Canon White to your congregation to preach and conduct the workshop.
At the workshop, you will first discover what the Bible has to say about spiritual gifts and then, through a series of questions, gauge your innate talents and proclivities. Afterwards you’ll use tools to reveal your strengths and interests. Finally, you’ll see how to apply those strengths and interests to action in your parish and in the world. You may find some surprising results! If you’ve done such an analysis in the past, don’t be hesitant to try this again. Our talents and interests change with time and with our situation in life.
Service times are 8am and 10 am.
Canon Constance L. White is the Co-Director of the Ministry Institute. She has served on the Committee on the Priesthood since 1997 and as Co-Chair since 2001. She also serves on the Board of Trustees of General Theological Seminary. Canon White is retired from Educational Testing Service, where she was Director of Scholarship and Recognition Programs.
