Reverend Harvey Carey to Speak at Holy Spirit Retreat
June 8, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm$45
St. Luke’s Church in Gladstone has received a special grant to bring a dynamic leader of a growing, multi-cultural, inner-city ministry to Peapack/Gladstone. The Reverend Harvey Carey of Citadel of Faith in Detroit, MI will be coming to lead a retreat at the Community of St. John the Baptist in Mendham, located at 82 West Main St., Mendham, NJ, on Saturday, June 8. He will also be preaching at St. Luke’s Church on Sunday, June 9th, at all three of the Sunday Services: 8am, 9:30am and 5pm.
Pastor Carey travels the world speaking about the Holy Spirit. He recently spoke at the national convention of the Alpha USA ministry in Mesa, AZ. He has also addressed denominational gatherings of the Christian Reformed Church and Church of Christ. His other speaking credits include: The National Youth Workers Convention, the 2015 Global Leadership Summit in Brazil, as well as being a guest speaker at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI.
Carey is the Founder & Senior Pastor of Citadel of Faith church in Detroit. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Central Detroit Christian Community Development Corporation, a non-profit organization providing social services, housing and enrichment activities for youth and children. Carey’s vision for urban renewal unites people across boundaries of race, age, class and culture.
Carey’s visit is made possible by a grant from the St. Martin’s House Board, which is a local organization that extends grants for Christian retreats. It is so named because of a retreat house in Bernardsville, that was operated by St. Bernard’s Church. Eventually the house was sold, and the proceeds used to create a fund to sponsor retreats. The St. Martin’s House Board consists of representatives of the following Episcopal Churches: St. Bernard’s, Bernardsville; St. Mark’s, Basking Ridge; All Saints, Millington; St. Luke’s, Gladstone; St. John on the Mountain, Bernardsville; St. Peter’s, Morristown; and Church of the Redeemer, Morristown.
Carey will be speaking about the Holy Spirit at the Saturday retreat as well as during his sermons on Sunday at St. Luke’s. This is an especially appropriate topic for that Sunday, June 9th, because it is Pentecost Sunday, a day when many Christian churches remember the initial moment when the Holy Spirit came upon the Apostles and inaugurated the Christian church. That event is described in the Bible in Acts chapter 2.
The public is welcome to attend St. Luke’s to hear Carey preach and to attend the retreat in Mendham. To find out more details call St. Luke’s in Gladstone at 908-234-0002 or visit their website, www.stlukesgladstone.org.
