Diocesan Youth Lock-In
Trinity Episcopal Cathedral
Trenton, New Jersey
Friday Dec. 13– Sat. Dec. 14
7 p.m.-7 a.m.
Every December, young people across the Diocese of NJ come together for a night of fun, music, PIZZA!, service and (maybe a little) sleep for your Annual Youth Lock-In at Trinity Cathedral.
Youth and chaperones arrive between 6-7 p.m. at Trinity Cathedral in Trenton. We’ll get to know each other with some ice breaker games, after which we celebrate the Eucharist officiated by Fr. Ben Maddison from Holy Trinity in Wenonah and featuring youth-friendly music from Fr. John Francis O’Mara from St. Paul’s in Westfield. After fueling up with pizza, we’ll move on to our service project with Rise Against Hunger, an international hunger relief agency. We anticipate compiling and packing 10,000 meals for those in need.
After our service project, some will go off to sleep; others will play games, talk, and laugh the whole night. Breakfast is at 6 am, and we end at 7 am.
For those who have not participated in the past, it is an evening – and beyond – characterized by a sense of gratitude, brought on by the good work being done in the presence of the Holy Spirit.
Join us. It will be fun, it will be fulfilling, and it is important work.
For the Rise Against Hunger service project, we set up and take down packaging stations and equipment, fill bins with raw ingredients, scoop ingredients into meal bags, weigh and seal the bags, box and stack them on pallets, and load the pallets and equipment onto a truck – all as we sing along, and dance a little, to some of our favorite music. At the completion of packaging each 1,000 meals, a gong is struck, each time with a little more emphasis than the last.
