Candlelight Choral Evensong March 26, 2017                                4:00 PM The St. John’s Choir will sing a special Candlelight Evensong on The Fourth Sunday in Lent, March 26, 2017 at 4:00 PM.  Evensong is a beautiful, contemplative service of music, scripture, and prayers with ancient roots in the Anglican Church.  St. John’s Church building, erected in 1838, in a blend of Norman and Gothic styles, is an appropriate setting for such a service.  The church building is surrounded by its historic cemetery, dating from 1722, when St. John’s parish was founded. St. John’s Choir of volunteer and professional singers, under the direction of William Clisham, Minister of Music, and assisted by guest organist Paul Fleckenstein, will offer music on this occasion, composed by M. J. Gibson, Samuel Sebastian Wesley, Martin Luther, Charles Villiers Stanford, John Rutter and John Balfour Gardiner.   In addition, there will be Organ Preludes and Postlude played on St. John’s magnificent pipe organ (the finest in Salem County).    St. John’s Church is located at the corner of Market Street and Grant Street in historic Salem City.   The Parking lot behind the Parish House is entered from Grant Street.  For more details, call St. John’s Episcopal Church: (856) 935-1798.   Free Admission, Ample Parking
