“Be still and know that I am God!" (Psalm 46:10) Our world is complex and it can be overwhelming and our thoughts can sometimes be scattered. Where is God in
To everyone in the Diocese of New Jersey: Let’s read a book together. Please join online this February on Sundays at 2PM to discuss Brothers in the Beloved Community: The Friendship of Thich Nhat Hanh and Martin Luther King, Jr. by Bishop Marc Andrus. Bishop Stokes discussed this book at length in a recent “Weekly Message.”
Martin Luther King, Jr and Thich Nhat Hanh met in person only twice. Their countries were at war, but both were men of peace. As members of the Fellowship of Reconciliation, Dr. King and Nhat Hanh shared the vision of a more just, equitable world. Their letters to each other grew into a friendship that became a Brotherhood in building Beloved Community.
They changed each other and they changed the world. This is their story. Our conversation will be Sundays at 2PM (ET).
“200 pages is a good book length for a short month (note: Black History month should be all twelve months!). Join this discussion of the special friendship of two gentle prophets and their Buddhist and Christian vision of Beloved Community, which the author names as the third character in this biography”.—Canon Barbie O. Bach
Friendship is a current of love that is spiritual, visible to what is called “the eyes of the heart.”
