Choral Compline, All Saints’ Church, Princeton

We warmly invite you to the first service of Compline offered by All Saints’ Church, to the church and to the community. As we navigate the COVID pandemic, we look for opportunities of solace, prayer, and connection, in a safe and heartening way.

Compline, traditionally an ancient expression of the Daily Office, is drawn from roots in the Roman Catholic Church, and has been adapted for use in our own Anglican tradition. This brief service of 30 minutes will feature the beautiful plainsong melodies which have graced church walls for centuries, as well as exquisite early motets of Tallis and Palestrina. We will usher in the “New Year” by harkening to the season of Advent, a time of expectation, renewal and hope.

The setting will be offered in candlelight, and will feature an extended quiet organ meditation, improvised by our music director. There will also be a small bag of lovely takeaway refreshments which you may enjoy at your home following the service. There will also be an opportunity for you to light a votive candle in remembrance or honor of a loved one.

This service is free and open to all who long for a quiet center. Please come, bring a friend and be transported to a beautiful space.
